Logging Cost Analysis

July 30-31, 2007

Courtyard Marriott, Monroe, LA

Instructors: Dr. Dale Greene and Dr. Chad Bolding

·        This course will cover both principles and applications of logging cost analysis from the perspective of both wood buyers/procurement foresters and independent logging contractors.  We will focus on methods for evaluating historic production and cost records.  We will review spreadsheet models such as the “Auburn Harvesting Analyzer” and will illustrate ways to modify this tool to model a range of harvesting systems and variations.  Upon completion of this course, participants should be well-equipped to better evaluate logging costs in their businesses using these techniques.  Professional foresters involved in wood procurement, sale layout, and harvesting; forest engineers; and representatives of forestry equipment manufacturers would benefit from the course content.
