- Virginia's SHARP (Sustainable Harvesting And Resource Professional) Logger Training Program: The Virginia SHARP Logger program provides training to loggers and foresters in the principles of sustainable forestry, environmental protection, and workplace safety. Since it began in 1996, more than 2400 loggers, foresters and others have completed the SHARP Logger training program. This represents the vast majority of logging companies in the state.
In order to become a SHARP Logger, participants must complete 3 core programs that include; Sustainable Forestry, Logging Safety, and Harvest Planning and BMP's. After achieving SHARP Logger standing, participants must earn 12 hours of continuing education credits every 3 years in order to maintain their standing. A database of current SHARP Loggers and training schedules for upcoming SHARP Logger classes can be found on our website at: http://www.SHARPlogger.vt.edu.
